The TD Ameritrade Institutional Difference
TD Ameritrade Institutional* is a leading provider of comprehensive brokerage and custody services to over 4,000 fee-based independent Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) and their clients. They deliver smart operational solutions, innovative technology, customized practice management and flexible investment solutions, all with one goal in mind—impeccable service.
As your financial advisor, when I make decisions about your money I thoroughly research all my investments. You can be assured that I have taken this same approach when choosing a custodian. This is why I’ve selected TD Ameritrade Institutional. They allow me to select from equities, bonds & CDs, exchanged-traded funds, options, non-proprietary mutual funds, and more to diversify your portfolio.
What is a Custodian?
A custodian is a financial institution that has certain regulatory responsibilities for assets in a customer’s brokerage account. As a registered investment advisor, I am required to have a custodian. Investments that you entrust to my firm are placed in custody with TD Ameritrade Institutional — one of the largest clearing providers in the industry. A clearing firm is an organization that, among other things, handles the execution, clearance, and settlement of transactions.
TD Ameritrade Institutional keeps track of your transactions, including realized and unrealized capital gains and losses. Each month you will receive a simplified, consolidated statement that reflects all your investment positions and transactions in your TD Ameritrade brokerage account. At the end of the year, you will receive one 1099 tax form and a summary statement.
